Blaine and I will be going on a service mission to the Tuba City Arizona Stake. We will be gardening in Chilchinbito a small town 75 miles east of Tuba City. The video below shows the LDS Church's gardening program in Kayenta which is 15 miles northwest of where we will be serving.

Beehive Bed & Breakfast

I really like the appearance and durability of these structures. Once the cabin is completed, we will be advertising as a bed and breakfast. Because we are a working honey farm, it is really interesting that our cabin is a nice replica of a beehive (skep). We will have actual photos in the next publishing.

The sandbag cabin is fairly easy to build. We hope to have the outside completed by Tuesday 7/12/11. Before we cover the cabin with the tarp, dirt and grass, it looks like a beehive (skep). The door our our cabin will be much bigger. We are making our own french doors on the front.

Andrea and I are building an earthbag cabin out of sandbags from the recent flooding on the Clark Fork River and Lake Pend Oreille. We were offered hundreds of sandbags by our friend Kathy who livest along the Clark Fork River. We just need to go and haul them away. We decided to build as many cabins as we could. We will have an interior that is 14'x14' with a stone floor. The sandbags will be covered with a tarp then dirt and planted with fescue.

Inside Our Cabin

The inside of our cozy cabin is 98% complete. The walls are all painted. The floor is painted. The counter top and kitchen sink have been installed. The washing machine is all set up, and all the trim around windows, doors and floor is finished. The only thing remaining is the cabinet doors under the kitchen sink.

Paul Trunnell a neighbor of ours who lives in a beautiful house with rock work all over it, came and did the beautiful rock work for our small wood stove.

We are almost finished with the inside plumbing for the bathroom, kitchen and washing machine.

The Cottage work started Monday, May 18, 2009 and was completed Saturday May 23, 2009.

Our Farm Dogs and animals really get along great. Scooby, Andrea's Catalouha Leapord dog just hangs out with the chickens or visa versa.

Here is the space where my new 16 x 24 cottage will be built. The same builder who built Andrea's cottage will be building mine. This cottage will be one story and be nestled between the Honey Hut and the Greenhouse. Blaine and I spend most of time in these places, so how perfect it is that we live between them. Construction begins Monday May 18, 2009.

We just started this blog so all can keep up to date on all the new things hapening on the farm!!

Recently we added a 2nd greenhouse, and moved our turkeys over by the "baby chicks" (the "baby chicks" are just about full grown, but our granddaughter still calls them babies. Very cute!
