Dale Hasken: New Garden

Dale has a beautiful garden area.  He set up wood corner posts and steel gate posts.  The soil is great and will make a fruitful garden.

Patrick & Lillian Thomas: Their New Garden

Patrick & Lillian used to plant corn in this garden spot. But the 10 year dought has prevented the planting of anything unless there is some kind of irrigation setup.  The ground was very hard when we started out.  It took a truck load of manure and 4 passes with the tiller to soften things up.

Thomas Bradley: His New Garden

Thomas is the 2nd of our 24 new gardens.  We helped him put manure on the garden.  He set up strong wood corner posts to keep the free range cattle and horse out of the garden. Thomas is the brand inspector for the area.

Jane Begay: Her garden & sheep

Jane 's garden is 1 of 14 new gardens we are helping the folks of Chilchinbito put in. Her sheep started lambing a few days after this picture.

Blaine tilled the little church garden yesterday.  This morning we woke up to 1" of snow all over the place.
There is a general lack of greenery and vegetation in the area, however, the amazing rock outcrops all over the place make up for any deficiencies.
These are horses grazing out in the desert.  Driving down the roads here on the Navajo Reservation you see alot of cows and horses.  Every once and awhile you see sheep.  The cows and horses appear to be fending for themselves and graze on the sparse vegetation.  They appear to get enough food and all look very healthy.  Many times the horses and cows have gone through the fences and they graze along the road and the cars just drive around them.
